Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory bowel disease also better described as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

This is the term used to describe such gut issues as – Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

These are described as an autoimmune disease.   An autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s healthy cells.

What causes this to happen

Our bodies are self-regulating, and as such, the immune system only becomes disturbed when many internal and outside influences have disturbed the body to such a degree that the immune system turns on itself.

Food allergies and intolerances as these cause an inflammatory response in the gut damaging the intestinal linings enabling undigested food particles to enter the bloodstream with a subsequent immune response.  These foods will then continue to stress the immune system until they are removed.

Apart from food intolerances, poor food choices will impact the nutritional integrity of the body (such as excessive sugar, gluten, dairy and alcohol to name a few).

With incorrect nutrition comes the possibility of microbial infection such as candida and intestinal parasites.

Irresponsible use of antibiotics and other medications will cause a reduction of gut flora, and this impacts our immune system completely.

Research into the importance of our gut flora is a growing field of research at present and scientists are excited at the possibilities which this research is affording us regarding improvement in many illnesses. So it has to be a major player.

Therefore most autoimmune diseases have at their core DIGESTIVE DISTRESS.  One can liken the stomach and intestines to the petrol tank of a car.  If there is no petrol in the tank, it goes nowhere.

Mental and emotional stress, which affect the adrenals.
